1. Two days of arguments over same-sex marriage are over at the Supreme Court. Five justices, a majority, raised questions about a federal law denying benefits to same-sex married couples, even though the benefits are given to other couples.

 

2. Lawyers for Colorado theatre shooting suspect James Holmes says he would plead guilty and serve the rest of his life in prison to avoid the death penalty. The offer sets up a possible end to the case if prosecutors agree to a plea deal.

 

3. Veteran Secret Service agent Julia Pierson has been sworn in as the agency's first female director. During an Oval Office ceremony, President Barack Obama said Pierson is breaking the mould in the male-dominated agency.
