1. The court-martial is underway for private first class Bradley Manning, the soldier accused of leaking classified information to WikiLeaks. The defense argued in its opening statement that Manning was young and naive but had good intentions, while prosecutors are trying to prove the leaks aided the enemy. 2. At least 119 people are dead after fire swept through a poultry plant in north eastern China. The provincial fire department says the fire began after an ammonia leak triggered several explosions.
3. The death toll from Friday’s tornados and flooding in Oklahoma has gone up to 14. The state medical examiner’s office says that number includes 9 adults and 5 children.
4. New Jersey Democrat, Frank Lautenberg, the oldest serving World War II veteran in the US Senate has died now at the age of 89. Lautenberg‘s office says he died after suffering complications from viral pneumonia. |
