1. The Supreme Court has ruled the heart of the Voting Rights Act is unconstitutional. Justices struck down the part that determines which states must get federal approval for election changes. Controversial voter ID laws in Mississippi and Alabama could now go into effect.

　　3. Members of Nelson Mandela’s family and tribe leaders gathered today at the former president’s hometown in eastern South Africa. Concern is mounting for Mandela who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
