The incident happened in the morning near a local airport in Amarillo, about 850 km north of Texas's largest city of Houston, as the pilot attempted to land, local TV ABC13 reported.

　　The plane crashed into a yard by a mobile home. The pilot died at the scene and there is no report of injuries on the ground. The identity of the victim has not been released.

　　It's not immediately known what caused the crash. The National Weather Service says Amarillo had thunderstorms Thursday morning with wind gusts topping 32 kilometers per hour.

　　Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
