2. President Obama challenged young Africans to fulfil Nelson Mandela’s vision of equality and opportunity. Obama’s remarks capped an emotional day in South Africa that included a visit to Robben Island where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison. 

 

3. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa told the Associated Press the possibility of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden coming to Ecuador is diminishing. He says Snowden is under the care of the Russian authorities and can’t leave Moscow’s international airport without their consent. 

 

4. And gays’ pride parades around the country are expected to be energized this year, following the US Supreme Court decisions restoring same-sex marriages to California and granting gay couples the federal benefits of marriage they were previously denied.
