1. Excessive speed may have been the cause behind yesterday’s train derailment in Spain that left 80 people dead. Security footage of the accident suggests the train may have been travelling as twice the speed limit as it went around a bend. 95 people are still hospitalized, including 36 in critical conditions. 2. A new poll suggests Anthony Weiner’s latest sexting scandal was taking a toll on his New York City mayoral prospect. He has fallen behind City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in a democrat primary race. And voters are split on whether he should drop out. Weiner had been near the top of most polls.
3. Officials say the fire is out at a natural gas well in the Gulf of Mexico that blew wild earlier in the week. Gas stopped flowing from the Well Thursday. Authorities believe it became blocked by sand sediment in the well.
4. And on the fourth day of his visit to Brazil, Pope Francis blessed the Olympic flag, visited a slum and addressed more than one million young Catholics on Copacabana beach. |
