President Obama is looking at a two-track strategy to deal with Syria and its stockpile of chemical weapons. Obama is joining the call for the U.N. Security Council to start talks aimed at securing those weapons while pushing the fallback idea of military strikes if the U.N. effort fails.
 
A bipartisan group of senators has been putting together a reworked congressional resolution calling for a U.N. team to remove the chemical weapons by a set deadline. The resolution would authorize military action if that doesn't happen.
 
U.S. employers advertised fewer jobs in July but hired more workers, a mixed sign that suggests only modest improvement in the labor market.
 
Bermuda is preparing for Tropical Storm Gabrielle which is expected to strengthen and pass over or near the island by Wednesday morning. Tropical Storm Humberto is farther out in the Atlantic with sustained winds of 65 miles per hour and likely to get stronger as it moves west.
