CCTV9英语新闻12月:波茨坦宣言敦促日本实施开罗宣言的条款(在线收听

On the occasion of marking the 70th anniversary of the Cairo Declaration, our correspondent visited the venue of the Potsdam Conference in Germany.

The Postsdam Declaration defined the terms for Japan’s surrender, and was issued in July 1945 by the US, the UK, the former Soviet Union and China. It urged Japan to surrender unconditionally. It also stated Japan shall enforce the Cairo Declaration, and Japanese territories will be limited to the four islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku, and some other islets as accepted by the international community.

"The Potsdam Declaration states clearly that Japan must restore the land it stole from China before the second world war. It includes Northeast China, Taiwan and the Pescadores. It also said the Korean Peninsula Japan seized and then colonized must gain independence from it. All this was also stated in the Cairo Declaration issued in November 1943.” Matthias Simmich, deputy curator of Cecilienhof Palace of Potsdam said.

"As an historian, I want to say that Japan must reflect, study and analyze its war history. They must know it is morally upsetting for society. I want to say it is not too late to reflect upon it now." German historian Jorg Morre said.
