In the US, trading comes to a close shortly and the Dow Jones is up and the S&P 500 is also up.

 

The Australian dollar is worth over 90 US cents this morning .It'll also buy you 60.84 British pence and over 117 New Zealand cents.

 

The US economy has added 195,000 new jobs in June, according to data released last night. The figure was well above market expectations of just 165,000. The unemployment rate hasn't fallen though . It's stuck at 6 7.6 per cent, rather than falling by point-one of a per cent as analysts had expected, which suggests more people have remained in the labor market.

 

A total of 115 employees will lose their jobs when the Angas Zinc Mine at Strathalbyn, in the Adelaide hills  closes at the end of September. The mine's operator Terramin says the mine will reach the end of its economic life at current metal prices by then. The 400,000 tonne per annum operation was commissioned in 2008 at a cost of 71 million dollars. The company says it has plans to continue exploring under and near the mine.
