British police have rearrested Australian entertainer Roff Harris over new allegations of sexual offenses. He was first arrested in March as part of an opperation set up to investigate claims of sex abuse mainly against British TV presenter Jimmy Savile. Now Roff Harris has been bailed again, but police aren't giving any more details about these new allegations.
Interest rate has set to dominate day 2 of the federal election campaign. The Reserve Bank is expected to cut the official rate today. The Opposition says that will be a sign the economy is in trouble, a claim rejected by the government.
Police are investigating the shooting of a man outside a house in Liverpool in Sydney's west overnight. The 34-year-old went to hospital, seeking treatment for a bullet wound to his stomach. Police have set up a crime scene at the house.
Japan's nuclear watchdog says the crippled Fukushima power plant is now facing a new emergency. Radioactive ground water has been building up and the barrier built container has already been breached. It's now feared the amount of contaminated water seeping into the Pacific Ocean could accelerate over coming weeks.
And Turkey's former military chief has been sentenced to life in prison. He and hundreds of other soldiers, journalists and academics were on trial for plotting to overthrow the government. Outside the court, police fired tear gas and water cannon at about 1,000 people protesting the guilty verdict. |
