A man's in custody after a shooting rampage in Texas, killing at least four people and injuring another four. Police say he attacked two houses about ten kilometres apart in the city of Dallas. They say he detonated at least one explosive device during the attack.
A US grand jury has indicted two students from Kazakhstan on obstruction of justice charges for allegedly helping to destroy evidence linked to the Boston bombings. The two 19-year-olds were college friends of the surviving suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. They allegedly remove a backpack containing fireworks and a laptop from his dorm room.
And yet another blow to Labor’s mining tax has been revealed. Mining giant Rio Tinto has paid nothing during its first year. Fairfax is this morning reporting pre-payments made by the company in April and have now been refunded by the tax office. The tax has been forecast to raise four million dollars over the next four years. |
