The local share market finished higher today, buoyed by gains in energy and bank shares. The All Ordinaries Index put on 12 points and the ASX 200 added 13 points. Oil and gas producer Santos added almost two percent, while Woodside Petroleum put on half a percent. NAB was the best of big four banks, gaining almost 1.5 per cent. Warrnambool Cheese & Butter closed 3.5 per cent higher after a Canadian dairy Company boosted its takeover offer, but shares in world manager AMP pumped three per cent after the company issued a profit warning. And the Australian dollar is currently buying 96.07 US cents.
Holden’s managing director Mike Devereux has been promoted to a new General Motor’s role based in Shanghai. The carmaker says Mr. Devereux will take up the post next month, but will continue to manage Holden until a replacement is named at the end of the year.
Analysts say Twitter has position and shares to rally when they trade for the first time in the New York Stocks Exchange. Twitter says it will sell 70 million shares in an initial public offering that will value the company at almost 11 billion dollars. The shares will be priced between 17 and 20 dollars each, which is below most analysts’ expectations. |
