And now let's take a look back at how this vaccination crisis began.

On December 9th, three infants in central China’s Hunan province fell seriously ill after receiving hepatitis B vaccines. Two of them later died. The vaccines came from the Shenzhen-based BioKangtai company, which produces more than half of all the hepatitis B vaccines in China.

Two days later, Hunan health authorities and police formed an expert investigation team to look into the matter.

On the 14th, the China Food and Drug Administration issued a notice urging disease control centers to suspend the use of two batches of BioKangtai’s vaccines. That night, Guangdong authorities moved to pull over 3,000 shots of the vaccine from circulation.

This past Friday, Chinese authorities announced a ban on all hepatitis B vaccines produced by BioKangtai.
