The annual Ice and Snow Fishing and Hunting Cultural Tourism Festival has kicked off at Chagan Lake in northeast China. 

Thousands of visitors watched the first fish being pulled out of water and hoped to catch their favourite one in order to bring them happiness. During the event local fishermen cut holes in the frozen lake and go fishing dressed in fur hats and white sheepskin coats. Chagan Lake is the seventh largest freshwater lake in China and is home to 70 different species of fish. At last year’s event a total of 850-thousand kilograms of fish were caught. The festival attracts more than 20-thousand visitors each year.
