CCTV9英语新闻:Gov't forces kill dozens of rebels crossing Lebanese border(在线收听) |
The Syrian army has killed over 70 rebels crossing the border from Lebanon. The ambush in the Qalamoun area near Syria’s capital, Damascus was carried out in close coordination with Hezbollah. But despite the attack, as CCTV’s Alaa Ebrahim in Syria reports, the influx of weapons and fighters crossing the Lebanese border shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. This Syrian military helicopter is finishing off what is now considered the tactical achievement of Syrian military intelligence and special forces of the year 2013 killing over 70 rebels in one ambush. The dead rebels were part of a larger group that crossed from Lebanon into the mountainous Al-Qalamoun area in Damascus countryside on their way to take part in the rebel attack on the Christian town of Malola and future attacks on Damascus.
The dead bodies scattered over a large area indicating not only that the militants were caught off guard but also that they attempted to escape without success. The soldiers show us a passport of a dead Egyptian fighter telling us they found Pakistani, Chechyn , Saudi and Lebanese documents on other bodies. This ambush is a set-back for rebels in Damascus countryside but not a turning point as experts estimate there are over 11 thousands militant fighters in Damascus countryside three thousands of them in Al-Qalamoun. The daring military ambush is a reminder that despite recent rebel gains the Syrian army still has enough tricks up its sleeves to turn the table when needed something that only upcoming days will show. |
