The Smithsonian’s National Zoo in the US capital, Washington has shown its newest panda cub, Bao Bao, to the media.

It’s a tryout for the female baby panda’s public debut next Saturday. Bao Bao was born last August, and now weighs more than 7 kilograms. The panda keeper says the little girl spends lots of time sleeping, and has just started walking and will work on climbing.

The Zoo is preparing Bao Bao to meet the public, making sure she’s healthy and she can get used to crowds. Since her birth, the cub has gained millions of fans on the internet. Bao Bao is the third child of China’s giant panda Mei Xiang and Tian Tian. Her older brother Tai Shan returned to China in 2010.
