China’s research vessel and icebreaker Xuelong, or Snow Dragon" has entered an area of clear water, after more than ten hours spent breaking through the Antarctic ice. The vessel had been trapped in the area since Friday.

For more on how the Xuelong freed itself, we are joined on the phone by Zhang Beichen, a senior member of China's Antarctic Scientific Expedition on board the icebreaker.

Q1: Beichen, you were there during the whole process, tell us more about it.

Q2: After the Xuelong was trapped, a team was set up in Beijing to discuss the best way to break the ice. How was the cooperation between Beijing and the crew on the Xuelong?
