Just like the Grand bazaar in Istanbul, the AmPhaWa floating market in Bangkok and Dongdaemun in Seoul, wholesale markets are a place for the locals to shop, and foreigns to explore. But managing them can be difficult.

Beijing officials says the giant clothing market near the Beijing Zoo generates 60 million yuan in tax revenue, but it costs the district government over 100 million yuan to manage.

The city also plans to close another large garment wholesaler, a farm produce wholesale market and a building materials trading center. They are to be relocated outside the downtown area, and likely in nearby Hebei province.
