CCTV9英语新闻:云南香格里拉县独克宗古城大火已基本扑灭(在线收听) | ||||
The fire that ravaged an ancient town in southwest China’s Yunnan Province has been put out. This is what remains, after more than two thousand firefighters battled the fire for more than ten hours. According to local officials, more than 240 houses have been destroyed by the blaze, and at least two thousand people evacuated. Initial calculations have put losses at more than one hundred million Yuan. Inititial investigation has ruled out arson. The fire in Dukezong town of the resort county of Shangri-La broke out at around half past one on Saturday morning. Dukezong is a thousand-year-old town and one of the most popular tourist attractions in China. Most of the structures there are made of wood, making it easier for the fire to spread and difficult for fire-fighting operations. Low temperatures have also hampered the clean-up process.
