Mr.Abbott has already held talks with the South Australian and Victorian premiers about an assistance package for Holden workers. Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has been defending a multi-billion-dollar cost blowout of its revised NBN plan. A reviewer of the National Broadband Network says the Coalition's plan will be $11.5 billion more expensive than promised. Mr.Tunbull is blaming the previous Labor Government for the blowout.
The Federal Government has officially set up a Royal Commission to the former government's home insulation scheme. It will investigate the decision making process and with the deaths of four young tradesmen could have been avoided. Hundreds of house fire have been linked to the scheme. Brisbane lawyer Ian Hanger QC has been appointed as the commissioner.
An Indian man wanted for a fatal hit-and-run in Australia was appeared caught in New Delhi. Puneet Puneet has been on the run since 2009 after pleading guilty to killing 19-year-old Dean Hofstee while driving drunk in Melbourne. An extradition hearing is due to get underway late today. |
