Xinjiang calls for terror suspects to surrender
Legal, procuratorate and public security authorities in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have issued a joint statement, calling for law-breakers who are involved in terrorist activities to surrender to get lenient punishments.
The statement forbids people to organize, lead or join any terrorist groups. It bans people from implementing or instigating terrorist violence. It also prohibits people from directly or indirectly funding, supporting or harbouring terrorist activities, terrorist organizations and terrorists.
The statement also bans people from manufacturing, trading, transporting, publicizing, copying and holding propaganda materials or electric storages with terrorist violence and religious extremism contents.
Those who are invloved in the above activities will be given mitigated punishments if they turn themselves in within 30 days, according to the statement.

13 injured in SW China quake
At least 13 people were injured after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake jolted a county in southwest China early on Saturday morning.
The quake, which happened in Yingjiang County of Yunnan Province, had affected more than 300 thousand residents in 15 towns and toppled and damaged more than 9 thousand houses.
The quake has also damaged 36 schools and 9 bridges. More than 10,000 people have been relocated.
About 3,000 rescuers are working in the county to remove potential risks, set up tents and resume the power supply.
 
12 dead in south China flood
Twelve people have died in rain-triggered floods in south China's Guangdong Province and neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region over the past few days.
16 highways were blocked by the flooding in Guangdong.

Chinese President urges Shanghai stronger competitiveness
Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged Shanghai to push forward reform, pursue scientific development and improve its competitiveness.
Xi Jinping made the remarks during his inspection in Shanghai over the past two days after attending the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.
He urged Shanghai to lead the country in cultivating and practicing the socialist core values and promoting the values into people's daily life.
 
Beijing city tightens subway security check
Subway passengers in Beijing will have to face security check at three more stations starting Saturday as a new measure was launched to beef up subway security.
Previously, only personal belongings needed to be checked when passengers entered a subway station.

Thai military leader dissolved the Senate
Thai military leader dissolved the Senate and transferred a few important government officials to inactive posts on Saturday.
Prayuth said that he had taken over the authority of the House of Representatives and the Senate for the time being in case any actions require approval of the parliament.
Meanwhile, a number of prominent Thai political figures, including former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, have been detained by the military junta, and are expected to be released within a week.
 
China calls for joint efforts to deepen China-Russia strategic economic cooperation
Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao has called for joint efforts of China and Russia to further deepen their strategic economic cooperation.
Addressing the China-Russia Business Roundtable of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Li Yuanchao said that to deepen bilateral economic cooperation is integral to the building of comprehensive relations of strategic cooperation and partnership between China and Russia.
He hoped the two sides could seize the opportunities with a stronger sense of urgency, deepen consensus of cooperation, expand converging interests and work together to build an even closer community of common interests.
 
Russia to respect Ukraine's election results
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Russia will respect the results of Ukraine's presidential election on Sunday.
Putin has told reporters at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Russia will work with Ukraine's new authorities after the election.
He says he is ready to hold talks with Ukraine's incoming government and that a new Cold War with the West over Ukraine is unlikely.
Ukraine's presidential election takes place today despite waves of violence and political instability in the country's eastern regions, where government forces have launched operations against insurgents to regain control.
 
Ban condemns killing of UN peacekeeper in North Darfur
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon has condemned the killing of a UN peacekeeper from Rwanda in Sudan's North Darfur region following a failed mediation attempt between two groups of armed men.
A statement issued by Ban 's spokesman says three more peacekeepers were injured and are being treated.
 
U.S., EU wrap up fifth round of trade talks without breakthroughs
The United States and the European Union have concluded the fifth round of the Atlantic free trade talks, without yielding major significant breakthroughs after almost a year of negotiations.
The next round of negotiations will take place in July with specific dates not yet determined.
