Christmas Message from Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
Monday, 23 December 2013
Hi folks, I’m Boris Johnson, I’m the Mayor of London. Just wishing everybody a very happy Christmas and saying that, I think, in many ways 2013 has been even more extraordinary for London than 2012. We are seeing huge sums of investment coming into our city, that’s enabling us to develop a record number of affordable new homes for Londoners. Crime continues to fall across the city. We are able to get on with those big transformations in our transport infrastructure that are so vital for long-term development.
Crossrail 2 now firmly on the map, all the upgrades of the tube going ahead, the air conditioning, the new trains.
I hope you will have seen our new bus for London out there on the streets in ever growing numbers, complete with its very handy Bikram yoga style sauna on the upper deck, actually we are working on that. It’s a fantastically, climatically comfortable bus of course.
Rolling out the bike hire scheme across areas of London that have never seen them before, planting tens of thousands of new trees, improving air quality, loads of wonderful things happening in our city.
Work that is being done across our communities by local government, by volunteers and helped also by us here in the GLA. It’s been a fantastic year. Hope very much that you have a wonderful Christmas, a very happy new year and here’s to 2014.
