Douglas Hyde: The music of 2005 was a collected blend of surprises, sure things, and sold-out concerts that proved Rock and Roll was alive and well.
Show me~
Douglas Hyde: But there is no doubt about it; the year belonged to Mariah Carey.
We belong together…
Douglas Hyde: The comeback kid shook off the bad times with "The Emancipation of Mimi", (shut up, shut up, just shut up~) while her single 'We Belong Together' was No. 1 for 14 weeks on the Billboard charts. The pop diva even racked up 8 Grammy nods.
Mariah Carey: I am grateful that this album is, um, being well received, so, it's…it's a blessing.
Douglas Hyde: Alternative rockers--Green Day--were blessed as well, their CD "American Idiot" sold over 4 million. And so did Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway". American idol sweetheart cranked out hit after hit.
But since you been gone...
Douglas Hyde: Ultra chic, Gwen Stefani's solo effort, "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" flew off shelves, and the single 'Hollaback Girl' became a pop album.
I ain't no Hollaback girl...
Douglas Hyde: Hip hop was having a good year too. Kanye West skipped the sophomore jinks with the "Late Registration" and "The Massacre" by 50 Cent was Billboard's top album of the year.
Douglas Hyde: Rake through country crooners, Rascal Flatts were on fire with "Feels Like Today".
Douglas Hyde: Colombian artist Shakira released two albums in English and in Espanol. And her song 'La Tortura' with Alejandro Sanz was the No. 1 Latin single. (and~I~I~)
Douglas Hyde: Even reggaeton(pronounced Reggae-TONE) star Daddy Yankee's "Barrio Fino"sizzled as the top Latino.
Douglas Hyde: It's great to have an audience. Just ask U2, the Irish band, Sir Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones all had the biggest selling tours of 2005, no small feat (hot,so hot!) considering the concert industry has been in the slump the past few years.
Douglas Hyde: In Hollywood, I am Douglas Hyde.
Note------------ comeback kid: 特指从失败中恢复过来的人. crank out: to produce a lot of something very quickly; 制成. reggaeton(pronounced Reggae-TONE): Part Latin, part hip hop.
