It may not the lengdary match-up .. versus octopus. But imagine this fight: sea dwelling cone snail versus tine fish. Who wins? well, true, the fish can .. away but the snail have chemical weapons. So they use ..cocktail of compounds and most of them are neural toxins and they just completed wipe out the preys the physiology right so the preys cannot respond any more. Helen .. the biologist of the University of Utah, she and her colleagues discovered the cone snail's venom contains not only neural toxins but insulins too which the snail's prey taken to their gills and that insulin overdose causes the fishes blood suger to plummet, deprive brain's of engery and inducing a coma. And that is what happen when you give people the instant overdose. It can cause a coma and then death, depending on the amount of the insulin. They reported the finding in the jounral Proceding of the National Academy of Scienses. If all sound like the some ... munder mystery, well, it is. The paper actually cites the clause ...trail in the 1980s. .. injected wife with insulin and as a consequence of that, she went to insulin shock and end up in a .. coma. That was the prosecusion theory. But proving it to a jury would be a struggle. ..was ultimatly found not guilty. But in the evolutionary struggle between snail and fish, it is now clear who has done it and how. |
