1. The spiritual leader of Nigeria’s Muslims is among the victims of a plane crash in Nigeria. The ADC flight crashed just after takeoff in Abuja carrying more than 100 people. Six people survived; an investigation is underway.
2. The calm is over in Iraq. At least 70 people including insurgents and police academy instructors were killed Sunday across the country. Violence had slowed during the last of the Muslim holydays.
3. Thousands of homes are still without power from Maryland to Maine after a powerful windstorm blasted through the region. Some areas measured gust of up to 70 miles per hour. Power lines were toppled and trees fell onto houses. No one is reported injured.
4. It’s a drum line even a college marching band would envy. More than 7,000 drummers gathered in the stadium in India to pound their way into the Guinness Book of World Records. Local leaders hope the title will entice more tourists to their city in the remote section of Northeast India.
