"We haven't had rain like this for more than three decades. I asked my neighbors to help me move the furniture from the ground floor to the first, and soon found that we had to move them higher again. A lot of stuff have been torn down," said a villager.
This bridge is the only path to the outside from this village. Those who have been evacuated are concerned for the ones still inside.
"The flood wasn't so severe when we got up in the morning. But the water has risen wildly for two hours since 7a.m.," said a villager named Zhang Qihong.
Just how intense was the rainfall on Wednesday morning? This happened in only half an hour on a wide street. Many vehicles were stuck, some even on roofs. Rescuers have been dispatched all over to help people down into rescue boats, or up to higher and dryer ground.
Rainstorms have swept through Guizhou Province, leading to bridges breaking, power and water supplies cut off in many rural villages, and the evacuation of 30,000 local residents.
And forecasters say the rain will continue for the next two days. |
