Outside the G7 Summit, thousands of protesters have been trying to disrupt the meeting. Convening on upscale resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen from different directions, they have been trying to get as close as possible to the hotel at which world leaders are meeting. 

Protesters are condemning the group's empty promises on climate change and poverty relief. Many are critical of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership—a potential US-EU trade deal that they claim will harm consumer protection, social rights and the environment. 

Clashes with police have occurred, and a number of protesters were arrested. It has been reported that around 17,000 German policemen were deployed around the hotel. About 2,000 Austrian police were standing by on the Germany-Austria border to ensure the summit's security.
