Question:How should I handle a situation where a relative keeps asking to borrow money?
  1. You'll have to tell him that, if he wants to borrow money, he should go to a bank because they're in the lending business and you're not. I would also say that the next time he asks to borrow from you, it will be the last time you'll be hanging out with him unless he learns that money really doesn't grow on trees. When you're in his company, be very careful about opening your wallet in front of him and never leave any cash around where he might be tempted to steal it from you ... the fact that he's your cousin doesn't mean he wouldn't.
  2. it's funny how you get embarrassed to just ask for your money back, & he doesn't seem to get embarrassed to ask you for money that is not his.
whenever he asks, just remind him that he already borrowed money & ask when he can pay you back. maybe he will be the one to get tired of asking if you always reply that way. if he makes up excuses, tell him you work hard for your money & you have a budget & have already planned on where the money is going.
if he does end up paying you back everything he's ever borrowed, then only let him borrow money one time after that - then after he repays you he can borrow again. (only let him borrow as much money as you don't mind never seeing again)
