March 13th,1852Uncle Sam, the iconic symbol of the United States debuts as a cartoon character in the New York newspaper. 1925, in Tennessee, a law that prohibits the teaching of the theory of evolution takes effect. Months later the law is challenged in court in what becomes known as the Scopes Monkey Trial.
