A manhunt is underway in Northern Illinois after a police officer was shot and killed in a village around fifty miles northwest of Chicago. NPR's SK reports police say they are searching for three suspects. Authorities have locked down schools, blocked roads and are using helicopters and dogs ,set a search for three armed suspects, two white men and a black man continues in areas around * Illinois. The spokesman for the sheriff's office says it was a little before eight in the morning when one of the village's police officers radioed in that he had made contact with the man whom he described as suspicious and was in a foot pursuit. Communication with the officer was lost. Backup units responded and found the officer injured with a gunshot wound. He subsequently died. SK, NPR news, Chicago. In a K country, clerks continue to refuse to issue marriage licenses as to same-sex couples citing religious reason. This morning R county clerk asked Davis as DM and DA who have tried to get the license four times to leave. They refused. California plans to end longtime solitary confinement because of gang affiliation it its prisons. Prisoners had filed suits to stop the practice three years ago. Some said they had been held in solitary for five to ten years with no chance to change their prison conditions. The agreement also limits the amount of time prisoners will have to spend in the harshest conditions. And prison officials say they will create a new highly secure unit for repeat rule-breakers. The deal could be a model for other states. In a sudden reversal, Hungary has shut down train service for refugees and migrants heading west to Germany, leaving hundreds stranded without shelter in Budapest. JK has been with them and has more. Syrians and Iraqis protest the abrupt turnaround by the Hungarian government which had set up train service to get migrants out of Hungary. They are trying to reach Germany which is expecting a record number of asylum-seekers this year. JK reporting. Wall Street is trading a negative territory this hour. The DOW is down 437 points at 16097. That's down about 2.6 percent. NASDAQ is down 124 points at 4653. That's down 2.6 percent. The S&P 500 is trading down by 2.7 percent now losing 53 points at 1920. That all on bad manufacturing data that came out of China. During what he calls a holy year of mercy that began December 8th, Pope Francis has authorized all Catholic priests to formally forgive women who have had abortions. AP has more.
