CCTV9英语新闻:Actress voices concerns on Internet TV(在线收听

China's entertainment industry is booming, not just because of market demand, but also because of the widening breadth of media outlets. Veteran actress, Xi Meijuan, a deputy in the National People's Congress, argues Internet-based TV is too good an opportunity to squander.

Xi is a keen observer of China's TV industry.

With government guidance and regulation, she argues, the growing presence of internet TV dramas could help China establish its cultural brand.

"In the past few years, we've really seen the rise in the internet drama series. It's a good thing, because it's more flexible and more creative than conventional TV series. But just like any other industry, there should be some guideline and regulation of Internet production. Otherwise, there could be chaos in the market." said Xi.

But that doesn't mean China's film industry is where it needs to be either. Commercial blockbusters may bring in the money, but stories that deal with life and humanity are what will endure.

Xi Meijuan also calls for filmmakers to do more field research and create more 'down-to-earth' quality productions.
