Along with easing many restrictions on foreign music, art and literature, the Cuban government has increasingly allowed large gatherings not organized by the state in recent years. The Stones concert will almost certainly be one of the largest.
Before the trip, Mick Jagger promoted the concert in Spanish in an online video.
"We have played in many incredible places but this concert in Havana is going to be a historic event for us. We hope it will be for you, too," he said.
The Stones have performed in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay during their Latin America 'Ole' tour. With the addition of their Havana show to the end of the tour, they will become the first major international rock stars to play Cuba.
Cubans are invited to attend the concert at Ciudad Deportiva for free on a first-come, first-served basis. |
