CCTV9英语新闻:Greek PM: No need for further austerity(在线收听

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras says Greece does not need to adopt new austerity measures after six years of continuous cuts. Tsipras made the announcement at a cabinet meeting, after Eurozone members praised Athens for its recent reforms.

""The Eurozone review has closed without the enactment of additional measures, apart from those that we had agreed on last August. On our side we kept our obligations, both to lenders and primarily to the Greek people - which is important because we are being as flexible as possible when executing the terms of the deal -- with the goal of protecting society," Tsipras said.

The Eurogroup meeting on Greek debt ended without a concrete deal. Finance ministers gave themselves until May 24th to reach an agreement on debt relief that will unlock bailout cash for Greece. The deal could release more than 5 billion euros to help Athens cover debt repayments that mature in June and July. The Eurogroup assessment occurred just days after Greece's parliament passed legislation to reform Greece's pension and tax systems.
