CCTV9英语新闻:US allows victims' families of 9-11 to sue Saudi Arabia for compensation(在线收听

The United States Senate has approved legislation which would allow families of the victims of 9-11 to sue Saudi Arabia's government for compensation over its possible role in the 2001 World Trade Center attacks. The White House, which has threatened a veto, stated that president Barack Obama opposes the law.

15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi citizens. Saudi Arabia denies responsibility for the 9-11 attacks and strongly objects to the bill. They said they would consider selling off hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of American assets in retaliation if it became law.

The bill would allow survivors and relatives of those killed in the attacks to seek compensation from other countries.
