2016年CRI CRI Director-General Wang Gengnian's 2016 New Year Message(在线收听

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! - to all of our listeners overseas, on behalf of the staff at CRI. Best wishes for 2016.

The past year was eventful, both for China and the world. It marked the 70th anniversary of the end of the world's anti-fascist war and the founding of the United Nations. Also, the global effort for coping with climate change has stepped into a new era. China has conveyed to the globe the message of "Chinese Confidence" with a new blueprint for development.

Great progress has been made towards establishing the community of human destiny. The theme remains and will never cease to be "peace, development, and cooperation," despite some local differences and conflicts. Here, please allow me to quote a letter from CRI Spanish listener Juan Dias. "The world cannot survive without peace," he says "conflicts can only lead to destruction." We firmly believe that dialogue helps deepen understanding and friendship.

CRI, in the past year, held an array of interactive activities in the hope of promoting understanding among peoples around the world, including "Hello, China"; the "China, ASEAN Friendship Concert" and "I Say China." All of these events were aimed at presenting a real and vivid China to the listeners. A listener from India named Suresh inspired us a lot. He says in his letter that "CRI has made great contributions in disseminating cultural values of different countries and reducing conflicts caused by cultural differences, and these efforts will help, a great deal, bring the world together."

My dear friends, your attention to CRI will always be the motivation of our work. In this past year, CRI has received more than 14 million pieces of audience feedback via letter, email and social networking from 161 countries. And the number of followers of CRI's multilingual social network accounts has exceeded 56 million. I would like to take this opportunity to send my thanks to all those who are always with us.

As the Chinese saying goes--"keep the original intention in mind; get to know who you are,"--CRI will never deviate from its course of introducing China to the world and bringing the world to China. In the coming new year, you will see even better services from China Radio International.

Happy New Year and best wishes to our friends!

Thank you!

That was the Director General of China Radio International Wang Gengnian delivering his 2016 New Year message.
