A shop assistant explains drug effectiveness to a customer at an outlet of Beijing Tongrentang, China's largest producer of traditional Chinese medicines. The newly opened pharmacy in Prague has attracted many locals who are looking for a clinical consultation. Several senior experts from Beijing have come to participate in the free consultation activities. Li Zhi is a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. She believes the time-honored practices are gaining in popularity. "People are willing to choose traditional Chinese medicine and to accept the time-honored practices which proved to be effective like acupuncture and traditional massage methods. As the Chinese language and culture become popular, Chinese traditional medicine has won increasing recognition with the Czech people." Lucy, a patient who first got to know the pharmacy on Facebook, comes for treatment of her insomnia. She says traditional Chinese medical practice won't take effect immediately but is effective over the long-term. "I think there are many people from Czech Republic who try one time or two times and it's over. You have to have massage and some herbs for a longer time. It's not first-time is okay, no." Besides medical consultation, the campaign also includes various lectures delivered by top doctors and practitioners in the field of TCM. Wang Guowei is deputy director with Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The senior expert hopes the trip to the Czech capital can help more people to know the ancient medical practices and help them lead a healthy lifestyle. "Our experts come here, on one hand, to let more people know about the traditional Chinese medicine, on the other hand we hope to introduce the culture of the ancient practice to other places of the world. So people can enjoy the medical services and happiness that bring about by the treatment and culture of traditional Chinese medicine. " The drug store run by Tongrentang started operation at the end of last year. Director of the Czech branch Shang Guosheng says there is a huge market potential for Chinese medicines in the country. "Local residents in Czech Republic show great interest in traditional Chinese medicine which we believe is a precious gift to the world. So we hope we can bring it to the country and let more Czech people enjoy the benefits. " Chinese and Czech authorities co-established a center for traditional Chinese medicine in June of last year, in a bid to enhance ties in medical services and healthcare. Authorities hope by way of such cooperation, more patients around the world can receive effective treatments from the ancient Chinese practices and enjoy healthy lifestyles. |
