“All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day….”

All right, nothing like the sweet sounds of the Mamas and the Papas, singing California dream to start your day."
"The legendary band was the brains behind the trailblazing Monterey International Pop Festival."

40th anniversary, a new CD featuring music from the stars of the concert is out now. Joining us right now, who gave us a free CD, I think we have to divide and share it, I guess. Mama herself, Michelle Phillips, welcome, Miss Phillips, I should say? ”

"Thank you, thank you. It's a pleasure to be here."

"When you hear that music, you're saying, turn it off or turn it up?"

"Oh, up, by all means. I love the Mamas and Papas music, and, And I love Monterey Pop."

"Sure."

"Monterey Pop is just a really diverse, well, it's like the music of the 60's all on one CD. And er, this is a very good example of it, (absolutely), that's two CD set, that we're releasing now."

"Pardon me. It's not just the Mamas and the Papas. You also got Jimi Hendrix, the whole Otis Redding, you got Jefferson Airplane, Simon & Garfunkel, and so much more."

"Janis Joplin."

"Oh, fantastic, of all the Mamas and the Papas songs, your favorite."

"Well, I have to say that I am very attached to California Dream (I love the song) and I am a co-writer on it, and it's been very good to me."

"Everyone in captivity has heard of that song before. You know what, Michelle, I want to look at a picture of you now. And I want to look at a picture of when you were a young girl."

"Ok, there you are."

"And I wonder what advice you would give to that young girl now, having lived a life that you've lived, looking back and stopping her from bad..?"

"Smoking is bad for your skin."

"So what about advice on fame, and the career that you had, what would you tell her?"

"Er, you know, I would just say, er, just work hard, work hard, I have always been kind of a workaholic. And I have always loved to work hard. I have never been late for work in my life."

"That's so refreshing to hear."

"And I was able to make a transition from music to film to television, and nobody really thought that, you know, you just don't expect to be able to do that. (Sure) But it is a matter of really being dedicated to, to your work."

"You've just mentioned film, is it true they are gonna make a movie about you guys?"

"I think so."

"Really? That'll be really cool."

"It's the inside scoop, today on Fox & Friends, and it has a lot to do with the book that you wrote, California Dream, and back in 1996, and others are saying, um, this was the true story; maybe we should …..”

"It is a great story, and it is a funny story, and, you, it is kind of an unbelievable story, (right.) because it is really more about the relationships between the four people, and er, and you know the fact that, that we went from the studio (right.) to the Hollywood Bowl, I mean, (Amazing.) we never wait, that’s where we started our, that's the place of ....."

"Forget the little club's turn, talk about the California Dream."

"... wherever on stage, with Hollywood Bowl and...."

"Sure, it's great."

"And it is a great story."

"Check it out. There is Monterey Pop Festival on the anniversary. Michelle Phillips, we thank you so much for joining us live."

"Thank you."

"All right."
