2018年CRI Senior Chinese official stresses high-quality development（在线收听）

A senior Chinese official has called for promoting high-quality development by pushing forward supply-side structural reform and accelerating the building of a modernized economy.

Vice Premier Han Zheng made the remarks in a speech at the opening ceremony of the China Development Forum, which is hosted by the Development Research Center of the State Council.

Han says in the new era, the Chinese economy has seen a shift from high-speed growth to high-quality development, featuring medium-to-high growth, accelerated transformation of development modes, improved structure and new growth engines.

Han described the shift to high-quality development as key to understanding the Chinese economy.

He stressed the importance of deepening reform, taking tough steps to prevent and defuse major risks, increasing investment in innovation, sticking to the basic national policy of opening up, and implementing high-level trade and investment liberalization and facilitation policies.

He Lifeng, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, has also stressed the importance of developing an open economy.

"To develop a more open economy and to promote the Belt and Road Initiative by following the principals of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, we should implement the results of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, encourage international capacity cooperation, foster global trade, investment, production and service networks, and build a high quality environment for foreign investors."

He Lifeng says China will orderly widen market access and expand the opening up in areas of finance, telecom and education.

"As China promotes high-quality development, it will provide new and greater opportunities for foreign investors who want to establish businesses and cooperate in China, and will make greater contributions to the stability and development of the world economy."

The three-day forum opened on Sunday under the theme of "China in the New Era", attracting high-level officials, global business leaders and experts.
