Underwater Robots Swim Discover Remains of WWII Japanese Warship

Hundreds of kilometers off the Pacific’s Midway Atoll rests a pivotal piece of 20th century history, the Japanese aircraft carrier, Kaga.“You see the damage these things took, and, you know, it’s humbling to watch some of the video of these vessels because, you know, they’re war graves.”Aboard the research vessel patrol, researchers hunt for clues in an underwater graveyard from one of WWII’s massive theaters of combat.“This is one of the largest battles in WWII, it was caught, it was fought between carriers and aircraft, the information we have is limited, but the battlefield itself was extremely large.”In the summer of 1942, six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor came the Battle of Midway.U.S. analysts decoded messages from the Japanese Imperial Navy, a surprise attack meant for control of the Pacific instead,left dozens of downed planes, four aircraft carriers sunk and at least 2,000 dead Japanese.
