Speculation continues over the timing of this year's federal election.

Yesterday several ministers said the government was considering bringing the budget forward clearing the way for an early election.

But the prime minister Malcolm Turnbull says he's working towards a budget on the 10th of May.

The US is in talks with the Turnbull government about rotating long-range heavy bombers through Australia.

If the plans go ahead, American B-1 bombers and aerial tankers could temporarily be stationed in the northern territory.

The talks come as concerns grow over stability in the south China sea.

The United States says an Iranian missile test does not breach a recent nuclear deal with Tehran.

Iranian state television has broadcast the test launch of several long-range missiles.

A spokesman for the white house says if the images are confirmed, it will raise the matter with the United nations security council.
