The Australian Medical Association has dealt a blow to Labor's claim that the government wants to privatise medicare. The new head of the AMA, Michael Gannon, has rejected opposition leader Bill Shorten's allegation that outsourcing medicare's payments system amounts to a general move to privatisation.

A two month old baby and his 16 year old mother have died after a car was involved in a crash with a truck in Tasmania's north west. Paramedics treated the occupants of the car at the scene but were not able to save the baby boy. An 18-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition

The major players in the Brexit debate have made a last ditch appeal to voters ahead of the referendum on the UK leaving the European Union. Britain's Prime Minister, David Cameron has spoken from outside Downing Street urging voters to stay in the EU. At the same time, former London mayor and Leave campaigner, Boris Johnson, has spoken at the biggest debate yet on the referendum.

And the Bues and Maroons are preparing to face off in front of a sell-out crowd in Brisbane tonight for game two of the State of Origin Series. A win for Queensland will see the Maroons wrap up yet another Oigin Series.
