There have been dramatic developments in the Bali murder case involving Australian woman Sara Connor, with her boyfriend now confessing to assaulting a policeman who was later found dead. After almost 12 hours of interrogation, Taylor told police that he struggled with the officer and admitted he hit him with a mobile phone and a bottle. Taylor has also admitted that he and Sara Connor burned their clothes.

A woman's been charged with murder following a shooting on the Gold Coast yesterday afternoon. A 43-year-old man was found in Labrador with gunshot wounds to his chest. He later died at the scene.

The federal government is ramping up pressure on Labor, questioning whether the opposition leader will "wobble" like jelly over budget repair. The government's omnibus bill contains more than six billion dollars in savings, including measures that Labor has committed to support. Bill Shorten says Labor needs to see the bill before declaring a position. But in a speech to the Sydney Institute last night, the finance minister Mathias Cormann said negotiation isn’t needed.
