And these worshippers will stop at nothing to beat the crowd.

Is it like this every year?

Once they are inside, worshippers collect incense sticks.

进到里面后，香客们开始准备香枝

The crowds are moving through with their unlit sticks.

人们一边前进一边拿着还没点的香

Going through here, getting them lit, and then they are walking back up towards the temple.

进到这里后，才燃起香枝，然后他们往回走到庙里

The sticks are placed at the temple's altars

签条就放在庙里的香坛上

whilst they wish for good fortune in the New Year.

同时人们祈求新的一年能有好运

The incense smoke carries their messages to the gods.

燃香而起的熏烟将他们的祈愿带向上苍

For those most dedicated to attracting good luck,

对于那些一心要交上好运的人来说

there is the chance to make an especially auspicious offering on the stroke of midnight.

在午夜钟响时来敬香求吉利是再好不过了的

The crowd here are waiting patiently, many of them had been here for five or six hours.

There is a really tangible sense of joy and achievement that they have made it.
