China, Iran vow to implement comprehensive cooperation plan

China and Iran have launched the implementation of the comprehensive cooperation plan between the two countries.

This comes as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Wuxi on Friday.

The two countries agreed on the plan for China-Iran comprehensive cooperation in March last year.

The foreign ministers agreed to step up cooperation in energy, infrastructure, production capacity, science and technology, and health care.

Bilateral cooperation will also be expanded in agriculture, fisheries, cybersecurity and the third party market.

The two countries will also deepen exchanges in education, film and personnel training.

Lavrov commends Russia-China cooperation on bilateral, int'l issues

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has spoken highly of the joint efforts of China and Russia to strengthen bilateral cooperation and solve international problems.

He says one of the achievements is the record-high turnover of Russia-China trade, which surged by about 36 percent year-on-year last year.

The top Russian diplomat positively assessed the alignment of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Belt and Road Initiative.

He says the two countries are also closely cooperating within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, where Afghanistan and Central Asian issues enjoy special significance.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to visit China early next month, Lavrov says the two heads of state are expected to cover all aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation during their talks in Beijing.

Chinese mainland reports 104 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 104 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases.

Of the new local cases, 52 were reported in Henan, 39 in Tianjin, eight in Guangdong, four in Shaanxi, and one in Zhejiang.

The National Health Commission also reported 61 new imported cases in eight provincial-level regions.

New York eviction moratorium ends on Saturday

A New York State ban on evictions expires on Saturday. 

Thousands of tenants are facing the prospect of losing their homes.

The moratorium in the U.S. state has been in place for more than 20 months and was extended twice amid the ongoing COVID crisis.

Official figures show Germany's gross domestic product rose by 2.7 percent in 2021 compared with the previous year.

The German Federal Statistical Office says the German economy managed to recover from the sharp fall last year although the economic performance has not yet reached its pre-crisis level.

China's home prices slightly retreat in December

Official data shows China continues to see a generally stable housing market last month, with home prices in 70 major cities registering slight month-on-month decreases.

New home prices in four first-tier cities, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, edged down 0.1 percent month on month in December.

A total of 31 second-tier cities saw a month-on-month decrease of 0.3 percent in new home prices.

UN releases "Sport for Peace" stamps to celebrate 2022 Winter Olympic Games

The UN Postal Administration has released the new "Sport for Peace" stamps to celebrate the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

It is the first time that the UN agency has issued stamps for the Olympic Winter Games.

The stamps feature hockey players, snowboarders, figure skaters, bobsledders, curlers; and Alpine Skiers.
