3. Iran appears to have test-launched a rocket it plans to use to carry a research satellite into orbit. Iranian state TV says yesterday's launch was successful. Iran's fledgling space program is provoking unease abroad.

4. Pete's Grill in Baltimore couldn't be prouder of hometown hero Michael Phelps. Photos of the 14-gold-medal Olympian are everywhere. There's even a high-calorie “Phelps Special” meant for sharing.
