Hello, I'm Naamua Delaney at the CNN Center in Atlanta and here's a look at what's happening NOW IN THE NEWS. It is a symbolic rite of passage -- the outgoing president welcoming the new president-elect to the White House. President Bush and President-elect Obama will hold an Oval Office meeting today. They're expected to discuss the presidential transition and issues facing America like the economy and national security. First Lady Laura Bush will also take future First Lady Michelle Obama on a tour of the White House. The nation's auto industry is struggling not to crash amid the spiraling economy. Top Democrats are urging the Bush administration to consider including car companies in the 700-billion-dollar bailout plan. Ford, Chrysler and General Motors are being battered by the credit crisis and poor sales of gas-guzzling sport-utility vehicles. Circuit City, the nation's NO.2 electronics store is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Circuit City will continue operations during reorganization. The company will cut 700 more jobs, close 150 stores and exit big markets like Atlanta and Phoenix. With many people still missing, an angry crowd is demanding action at the site of a collapsed school near Haiti's capital. UN peacekeepers are struggling to keep the crowd at bay as rescue workers use dogs and sonar equipment to find any reminding, supplementing survivals. The school collapsed three days ago. An official says hopes of finding anyone alive are growing dim. The disaster killed more than 90 people and wounded another 150. Haiti's president blamed political instability and lawlessness for the school collapse. Award-winning South African singer Miriam Makeba has died of a heart attack in southern Italy. The artist, known as Mama Africa, was an icon and in the struggle against the apartheid. The former South African government was so unhappy with her activism. It revoked her citizenship in 1960s and banned her music. She performed with music legends such as Harry Belafonte and Paul Simon. Miriam Makeba was 76. Well those are the headlines this hour.
