Kyodo News reports that the Japanese government has officially launched the secretariat of the National Security Council, which will focus on coordinating1 between ministries2, gathering3 information and centralizing strategic decision making. Local reports say the new executive body will strengthen the prime minister’s control over foreign and defense4 policies. It will also end the traditional information management model, which was performed separately by different government organs.
For more insight, we are joined in the studio by Mr.Yang Xiyu, a Senior Fellow from the China Institute of International Studies.
