Leaders of China and the European Union exchanged congratulatory messages Wednesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang mentioned the global challenges over the 40 years and the vital global role of both parties. European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said China and the EU have made great progress in their cooperation over the past four decades. They stressed that the progress has laid a solid foundation for the future development of bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met in Beijing with visiting EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini who is attending the Fifth Strategic Dialogue between China and EU. The two-day event wrapped up today with both sides agreeing to expand business opportunities for each other.
Premier Li will co-chair the 17th Chinese-EU leaders meeting with presidents of European Council and European Commision later this year.
