China's former security chief Zhou Yongkang has been sentenced to life in prison for bribery¹, abuse of power and intentional² disclosure of state secrets. He has also been stripped of his political rights for life and will have his personal assets confiscated³.

 

The Number One Intermediate People's Court in Tianjin city announced the sentence on Thursday. Zhou admitted to his guilt⁴ during his trial and said he would not appeal.

 

Zhou Yongkang is a former Standing⁵ Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee.
