2015 has seen a number of key laws enacted in China, as legislators aimed to promote the country’s reform and development, as well as ensure social stability. Let's start with the National Security Law which was adopted in July. The law covers a wide spectrum of areas, including defense, finance, science and technology, culture and religion.
Outer space activities and assets, as well as those at ocean depths and in polar regions, were also brought under the national security umbrella. In August, China made an amendment to the Air Pollution Control Law. That will restrict various sources of smog, and make information on environmental cleanliness more readily available to the public.
In December, China adopted the first counter-terrorism law, aimed at creating a legal framework for China to address terrorism at home, and help maintain world security.
In the same month, Chinese lawmakers adopted an amended family planning law, a historic move allowing all couples to have two children amid efforts of balancing the country's population structure.
